Everyone knows that water is so important to our health. More than two thirds of our body is made of water. Water is essential to maintain body functions. Each and every cell in our body needs to be properly hydrated to function optimally. Our body also uses water to detoxify: water helps to detox naturally through the lymphatic system, the kidneys and intestines. To support the natural body detoxification, you need to be adequately hydrated. Besides that, water also helps in digestion and nutrients absorption, helps your brain function properly, and is one of the best way to keep young looking skin.
However, research shows than an estimated 50% of the world population suffers from chronic dehydration. In America, this number jumps to 75%!
So here are some tips to help boost your water intake
Know the amount of water you need to drink using this tool(note that it doesn’t take the exercise intensity into account)
Drink slowly, water is better absorbed when drank slowly.
Keep it close. Carrying a water bottle or having a water pitcher on your desk can help to remind you to drink water. The fewer obstacles there are between you and the water glass; the better chances that you drink it.
Don’t like the water from your tap? Get a water purifier. Charcoal purifiers are cheap and remove chlorine and other off tastes. And with pure water, no more excuses not getting a glass!
Bored with plain water? Adding a splash of lemon juice, a few mint sprigs or some cucumber slices can add some flavor and variety to your glass. And on top of that, adding lemon juice also supports your body to detox naturally.
You can also eat more water rich foods like watermelon, cucumbers and tomatoes. Containing over 80% of water, those foods contribute to your daily water intake.
Choose water over other drinks. Can’t resist your juice craving? Try to at least cut it in half by adding water.
And if everything else fails, get a timer. Set it to ring at every 2 hours, depending of your water requirements, time and activity.
