An easy and safe 6 days detox

Fasting allows the body to rest and focus its energy to restore any disturbed bodily functions and therefore, become healthier.  Decreasing the amount of food you eat, even on a very short period, helps to support the waste elimination that blocks the detox paths.  This gives a rest to your organs and help to cleanse the blood.  As I said in my post about fasting, a detox method shouldn’t prevent you from performing your daily activities, and should be done only when you already have a healthy lifestyle in place.  We must also remember that there’s a way to enter and to break a cleanse.  You don’t simply go from a not-so-healthy diet one day to a juice fast, and back to everyday food.  You should always prep your body before and after a detox to make a smooth transition.  Ideally, the detox should have 3 phases: the preparation, where you start to implement healthier habits, the detox, where you give your body a rest, and the conclusion, where you slowly get back to eat normally healthy.

I prepared for you an example of what a safe quick cleanse could be. This detox spreads on 6 days and includes the 3 phases of the program.

Easy 6 days detox

Preparation phase

Day 1

What to avoid

  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Alcohol
  • Processed foods
  • Meat
  • Dairy
  • Refined grains
  • Food containing additives or coloring

What to eat

  • Water or lemon water
  • Herbal tea
  • Fresh vegetable juice
  • Whole foods
  • Raw foods
  • Whole grains

Day 2

What to avoid

  • Cooked food
  • Grains
  • tofu, seitan and other vegan proteins
  • Beans and legumes

What to eat

  • Sprouts
  • Raw fruits and vegetables
  • Fresh vegetable juices and smoothies
  • Water or lemon water
  • Herbal tea

Detox phase

Day 3

Drink plenty of pure water, lemon water and fresh vegetable juice. You can add about 1 teaspoon of slippery elm per cup of liquid at lunch and dinnertime for extra cleansing fiber and nutrients.

Conclusion phase

Day 4

Start to introduce raw fruits and vegetables as well as sprouts

Day 5

Start to introduce whole grains, nuts and seeds

Day 6

Start to introduce beans, legumes and healthy cooked whole food

You can do this gently detox at each change of season to help your body to detox naturally, or at any moment you’d like to give your body a break.  Once you feel comfortable with this method, you can add a day or two to the detox phase.  Please remember tho listen to your body, and that cleansing methods, as gentle ans safe they are, might not be suitable for some people. Always seek advice from a qualified health practitioner, especially if you have a specific health condition.
