While the word detox has been used only for alcohol and drugs detoxification in the past, it now includes getting rid of all bodily toxins.  Detox products are very “in” nowadays, generating over 5 million results in Google. But most of the products and practices advertised are not based in science, and some my even be dangerous.  The best way to detox is still to naturally support your body’s own detox system.  To help you with this, here’s a quick do and don’t of natural detoxification:

Do:

- Eat healthy and organic
- Exercise until you sweat
- Sleep adequately
- Avoid stress
- Breathe deeply
- Dry brush your skin
- Drink plenty of pure water
- Limit your meat, dairy and sugar intake

Don’t:

- Smoke, drink alcohol or take other toxins
- Eat processed foods
- Use toxic cleaners and beauty products
- Store/heat your food/water in plastic containers
- Take unnecessary drugs
- Expose yourself to known chemicals and poisons
- Eat sugary or fatty foods, artificial sweeteners or trans fats
- Go for an extreme detox method such as long juice fasts, colon cleanse, excessive dose of supplements, etc.
