detox foods : sprouts

Every health professional now points out trans fats, over heated oils, sugar, salt, and processed foods as the main culprits for the epidemic degenerative diseases and obesity we see today.  We are now so used to our modern diet, fast and processed, that we lost our taste for natural and raw foods. However, eating an abundance of fresh fruits and vegetables, along with nuts, seeds, sprouted grains and legumes are an easy way to strengthen our immune system, maintain and healthy weight and lower our risks of diseases.

Do you really eat more than 5 portions of fruits and vegetables each day?  Is your Omega3 to Omega 6 ration balanced? Do you eat whole foods at each ad every meal?

If you answered “no” to one of those questions, there’s place for improvement, and this simple living food can help: sprouts!

Sprouts are the ultimate raw food. Because sprouting is the natural process transforming a “dormant” seed to a living food, sprouted grains, seeds and legumes benefits from all the vitality and increased nutritional value that comes with it.  The main difference between cooked foods versus raw ones is that foods eaten raw keep all their precious enzymes.  Enzymes are essential to a healthy digestion and play an important role in natural detoxification.

Sprouts, as well as other raw foods are an excellent source of dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals. Moreover, sprouts are rich in vegetable protein, which makes it very interesting for vegans.  Sprouts are also the ultimate detox foods.  Rich in water, fiber, proteins, and several detox compounds, it’s the ideal food to add to a sustainable liver cleansing diet.

The good thing with sprouts is that on top of being super healthy, it’s also an inexpensive and easy way to have fresh food all year round.

Do you eat sprouts?  What are your best sprouted recipes?  What is your favorite sprouted food?

I am so glad to see you write about the value of sprouts. This is an inexpensive and easy to store food for “those times” that may be ahead. I have found a wonderful source for sprouting seeds, with the most extensive selection I have seen to date. The website is Yardlover.com. There are some wonderful ideas for sprouting seeds I never thought of befor. Always have fresh greens available for pennies a serving and you control just how much you have on hand by timing your sprouting starts. Check it out and enjoy the journy through this wonderful online store. I have no vested interest in this site, just glad I found it. Jere

Thanks Jere! The site you suggested has a lot of information concerning gardening, but there’s indeed a great section dedicated to sprouting seeds (the seeds for sprout section). They definitely have a a lot of different organic seeds, grains and legumes. Thanks for sharing!
