Detox Naturally – How to Avoid Detox Symptoms

Moving to a more natural lifestyle can bring many positive results in your life. However, any dramatic change in your lifestyle, especially in your diet can also bring some momentary side effects.

When we start to detox naturally, some people might feel that they start to feel worst eating only very healthy food.  This is why it’s very important to understand how the detoxification process works.  At first, the toxins are released from the cells and put back into the blood to be treated by the liver.  This is the first phase of the detoxification.  Then, the liver treats and sorts the toxins and directs them to the appropriated organ to evacuate it.  This is the second phase of the detoxification process.

When the toxins are put back into circulation more rapidly than what the liver is able to treat, some detoxification signs will appear.  This is not dangerous, but it’s a sign that the body works hard to detox itself.  If the detox symptoms are too strong, it’s important to slow down the detox process a bit to prevent overcharging your liver.

Common detox symptoms

  • Flatulence
  • Pimples
  • Increased thirst
  • Cravings
  • Runny nose
  • Headaches
  • Constipation
  • Insomnia
  • Fatigue
  • Fever
  • Diarrhea
  • Bloating
  • Nausea
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Bad breath
  • Dizziness

To avoid or minimize those symptoms, it’s important to start to detox very slowly, especially when you had a diet loaded with alcohol, sugar, trans fats, fried food, etc.  Before starting a detox program, it’s of the utmost importance to prepare yourself a few weeks before by eating food that supports the second phase of the detoxification.  You have to make sure that your liver and the other detox organs works at their best to be able to manage the sudden increased flow of toxins that will be put back into circulation.  This is exactly why I don’t advise to start a fast without proper preparation and supervision.  Water fasts and other strong detox methods like the master cleanse, are very efficient to induce the first phase of the detoxification. However, if the liver and the other detox organs are not ready, you could suffer severe detox symptoms.

In my opinion, the safest way to detox naturally is to slowly change your habits towards a more natural lifestyle.  What we want here is a slow and steady change that will not only avoid the detox symptoms but that you will be able to sustain.  Going back and forth from a standard American diet to frequent harsh detox programs is comparable to yo-yo dieting.  It’s very harsh on your detox organs and can do more harm than good in the long run.
