DIY natural cleaning products

Did you know that your cleaning methods make you at higher risk of developing cancer, having allergies, migraines, chronic diseases and fertility problems? Really. The common cleaning products are filled with hazardous chemicals that put your health at risk.  And besides tat, it’s also bad for the environment.  Here, every year we hear more stories about lakes infested with the blue algae.  It destroys the natural habitat of the flora and fauna, and has a direct impact on our health. Not to mention that we can’t use those lakes for most of the summer!

Personally, I haven’t used a commercial household cleaning product in at least 3 or 4 years, and still managed to keep my house squeaky clean.  In fact, you probably already have in your pantry the ingredients necessary to make your own natural cleaning products.

To prove you that it works, I challenge you to make one of these recipes this week, and try it for yourself.  You might be surprised on how efficient, safe and cost effective this can be!

It’s time to clean your cleaning products cabinet!

All purpose scrub

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ part of white clay
  • 10 drops of lemon essential oil
  • 1 part sodium bicarbonate
  • 1 part of natural dishwashing liquid (optional)

Mix all ingredients together. Slowly add some water and fill a small wide opening jar with the mixture.  Let sun dry for at least 24h before closing the jar.  To use, scrub a wet sponge on it.

Creamy household cleaner

Ingredients

  • Sodium bicarbonate
  • 1 tbsp of natural dishwashing liquid
  • 15 to 20 drops of essential oil (thyme, cinnamon, lemon, tea tree, lavender or clove)
  • Water

Fill out a clean empty bottle halfway with sodium bicarbonate. Add the natural dishwashing liquid, essential oils and fill up with water.  Always shake well before use.

All purpose cleaner

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp of sodium bicarbonate
  • 2 L of warm water
  • 1 tbsp of white pickling vinegar
  • 1 to 3 tbsp of essential oil(s) (example: 1tbsp of lemon, 1 tbsp of pine and 1 tbsp of tea tree or cinnamon essential oils)

Pour everything in an empty bottle.  A funnel helps for this part.  Shake well before use.  Use it as is to disinfect any surface.  Can be poured into a spray bottle to disinfect the toilet bowl too.

I am very interested . I would like to know exactly where to apply each product. For example:
The all purpose cleaner, is it better for the window? Does it works for wall ?sometimes it is very difficult take off stain on the wall.

I use the all-purpose cleaner to clean mostly anything: counters, sinks, garbage cans, compost bin, toilet, etc… I’ve never tried it on walls, but it may work. However, I wouldn’t use it on windows as it contains sodium bicarbonate which could leave some traces. I wash mine with a mix of warm water and vinegar. The key is to dry the window completely with a clean dry cloth to avoid streaks. Hope this helps!
