While we can easily ingest more than 10 different pesticides a day when eating fruits and vegetables in the dirty dozen, there’s also many “safe” options when for some reason, whether it’s the lack of variety, availability or budget restrictions, we simply can’t buy everything organic. Research has shown that people eating the 15 conventionally grown fruits and vegetables in the list below were ingesting less than 2 pesticides a day, compared to the 10 pesticides ingested when eating the ones from the dirty dozen. Here’s what is called the clean 15: #1 (with the least pesticides residue):Onion #2: Avocado #3:Corn * #4: Pineapple #5: Mango #6: Asparagus #7: Green peas #8: Kiwi #9: Cabbage #10: Eggplant (Aubergine) #11: Papaya #12: Watermelon #13: Broccoli #14: Tomato #15: Sweet potato *While corn my not have many pesticide residue, many of the conventionally grown corn is transgenic, so you might want to buy it organic anyway. Note: This list has been elaborated following the results of around 87 000 pesticide tests that have been made on 47 fruits and vegetables, between 2000 and 2007, by the Environmental Working Group. | ||||
