Our breathing system is at the base or life. Without breath, we can’t live more than a few minutes. So compared to the food we eat, how we breath can also have a dramatic impact on our health and our well-being. This notion, sometimes called Pranayama, has been well known for ages in oriental traditions. However, in our modern world, we sometimes tend to forget the importance of this automatic reflex. The benefits of controlled breathing
Here are a few breathing exercises you can try right now. Breathing Joy Stand with feet at hip distance, in a comfortable position. Breathe in while extending your arms forward, at shoulder height. Breathe a bit more and open your arms to the side. Breathe even more and bring back your arms in front and bringing them extended over your head. Breath out completely while lowering your arms and upper body towards the ground with an “ha” sound. Your knees should be lightly bent, and your spine elongated. Do it again around 5 times. The Windmill Stand with feet at hip distance and arms relaxed. Start rotating your torso from left to right in letting your arms balance from one side to the other. Let your arm completely loose like if you would wear a jacket with empty sleeves. Exhale “ha” on each side. Let your head and eyes follow the movements. You can lift the heel of the foot at the opposite direction of the rotation to allow torso a greater mobility. Relax your spine and keep knees slightly bent. How did you like those exercises? Did it make a difference for you? Or maybe you have your own breathing technique you would like to share? | ||||
